Specialist Floorings
There are many forms of specialist floors from Sports floors, which offer cushioning and stability through to raised awareness floorcoverings which aid the visually impaired.

Impervious Carpets
These carpets are widely used in the healthcare industry, they are produced with a specialised backing that protects the subfloor from liquid saturation. They are very tough in quality in order to deal with wheelchair use and are produced with high stain resistance qualities; some manufacturers also include a treatment to discourage microbial growth to reduce risk of passing germs and infections.
Impervious carpets are only available in sheet form and are all adhered to a prepared subfloor.

Tread Alert
This is a rubber tile with raised ribs that act as a tactile surface warning for the visually impaired to recognise a change in level, it is predominately used at the approach (top and bottom) of a flight of internal stairs.
Tread Alert is manufactured by Gradus Group Plc and is to be fully adhered to a prepared subfloor using manufacturers recommended adhesives.

Acoustic Flooring
This flooring is produced with a sound insulation layer, this is to reduce noise in confined areas where sound is easily carried.
Made using multi-layered vinyl it has antistatic properties and is produced in either sheet or tile form.
The closed cell foam backing offers the sound insulation, this is then reinforced by a glass fibre grid before the surface wear layer is adhered, each layer of this floor is treated with an anti bacterial and fungicidal treatment as it is often used throughout the healthcare industry in hospitals and medical practices.

Safety Floorcoverings
Floors which offer slip resistance are often used in commercial environments, in a variety of locations from schools and colleges to healthcare environments.
Slip resistant floors are made from vinyl which is impregnated with quartz crystals, aluminium oxide and silicone carbide particles to improve traction and safety underfoot.
Slip resistant floors are sometimes used in domestic properties in bathrooms. This needs careful consideration as ‘walk-in’ shower rooms require specific flooring where they are bare foot areas, these floors should not only have slip resistance qualities but also have a raised ‘bobbled’ surface to offer extra support to wet feet. Wet room floors require ‘tanking’ meaning that the flooring should be coved up the wall approximately 100mm to create a complete sealed floor, all joins must be heat seam welded to create a water tight finish. If the room is a standard bathroom area with a separate bath and or shower cubicle then a standard safety floor is acceptable.

Sanding and Resealing timber floors
The current floor should be of very sound nature as using the sanding machine causes low level vibration working any loose blocks free.
This is a lengthy process which creates a high level of dust so all areas should be sealed by the client prior to our visit.
Once sanding is completed the floor is then primed and sanded once more, this is then ready to take the lacquer.
The lacquer is applied over a period of days, depending on how many coats are required as each coat is applied and left for 24hours. Once the last coat is applied we recommend that the floor isn’t heavily trafficked and that heavy furniture is not applied until 7days after the last coat.
We do not generally sand and seal softwood boards i.e. Pine floorboards. These are often cupped and gapping from being lifted over time, they also splinter easily and when sanded create grooves and hollows which don’t allow for a smooth even finish. They are also often top fixed, meaning that they are screw fixed through the board so the screw heads may be slightly proud; these are very difficult to sand around. In turn a perfect finish is unachievable, and it is very difficult to meet customers expectations.
